Gearing up for the Savannah Women’s Half: ON Shoes and Apparel

I’m not the most fashion forward lady- or runner.

I don’t keep up with the trends. I work from home, and my “uniform” consists of a race shirt, khaki shorts, and retired running shoes. I own a few sets of work clothes (khakis, nice tops, Sperry’s) for when I visit the corporate office a couple of times a year. I have a few dresses I wear for nice dinners- again, a few times a year. I have clothes from college that still fit, and I still wear them.

If you’re looking for classic colors and styles, ON running shoes and apparel might be for you. Best of all, you can find them at your local Fleet Feet Sports, including Fleet Feet Sports Savannah.

I found the ON brand last year when shoe shopping for my husband, Clay. Clay works as a software developer, and his typical work outfit consists of khaki shorts, a t-shirt, and sneakers. Clay doesn’t run, but he needed a good pair of shoes that he could wear for walking around town, the gym, and for work. Like most men, he wanted one pair of shoes for all those activities.

I bought Clay two pairs of ON shoes, which you can purchase at Fleet Feet Sports Savannah. As a performance neutral shoe, the ON CloudFlow are great for running and racing, as well as going to the gym or walking around town. His shoes match all of his workout, casual, and work clothes.

The CloudFlow have simple colors and aren’t flashy, because let’s be honest, Clay doesn’t want to wear shoes covered in shamrocks, stars, donut sprinkles, or lobsters at his software company. Those special edition shoes are fun, but not the best way to be taken seriously at work.

As an ambassador for the Publix Savannah Women’s Half Marathon and 5K, I was excited to receive a pair of the On CloudFlow to try. While I’ve purchased the shoes for Clay, I’ve never worn them personally.

I couldn’t wait to try out the ON CloudFlow! I’m not running much right now due to my workload at my real-girl, technical writing job, but the shoes were super comfortable for my stair stepper workout and easy run. They are light and responsive but have enough cushioning to go the distance in a longer race like a half marathon (for when I work back up to that). For such a light shoe, I was surprised at how much cushioning the ON CloudFlow provides.

Along with running, I’m glad to receive a shoe that will look cute with my race shirts, khaki shorts, or jeans for walking around Savannah after the race.

When you run a destination race and have to be mindful about packing, it’s good to have one pair of shoes that work for everything from standing in long expo lines to racing to sightseeing. At last year’s Publix Savannah Women’s 5K, I took over 20,000 steps AFTER running the 5K so cushioned, comfortable shoes are important.

Along with the shoes, Fleet Feet Sports Savannah also sent a shirt and shorts for me to try.

Like the shoes, ON’s apparel also features classic styles and colors, nothing flashy. I appreciated that the shorts were simple, will match ANY of my running shirts, and that the apparel doesn’t make me look like a running highlighter. I’m over fluorescent yellow running shirts and patterned leggings.

I’m not a girly-girl, so I’m glad the apparel comes in colors like navy blue and heather gray with accents of pink for the feminine touch. The shirt even has a zippered pocket in the back.

The shirt is made of soft cotton and feature’s Fleet Feet’s logo. I am a big fan of Fleet Feet Sports and shop at our local Mt. Pleasant and Summerville stores, but I like to visit their stores in other cities as well. A few years ago, we went to Seattle on vacation, and I visited their Fleet Feet Sports to purchase a shirt. Each Fleet Feet is a little different and carries location-specific shirts, and I’m glad to add a shirt from Savannah’s Fleet Feet to my collection.

The shorts are the perfect length- short enough to be flattering, but not booty shorts. I prefer modest running shorts, but being 5’0”, a lot of running shorts can be too long- to the point of interfering with my stride. The shorts also have several pockets, which is helpful for carrying gels, cards, and IDs on runs, and they’re sweat-wicking for our steamy South Carolina summers.

If you’re interested in ON shoes or apparel, check out the Fleet Feet Savannah booth at the Publix Savannah Women’s Half Marathon and 5K’s Fashion Fitness Expo. Additionally, you can find ON items in their store at 3405 Waters Avenue in Savannah. Fleet Feet Savannah is open Mon-Thurs 10-7, Fri-Sat 10-6, and closed on Sundays.

As an ambassador for the Publix Savannah Women’s Half Marathon and 5K, Fleet Feet Sports Savannah sent me the ON CloudFlow shoes and outfit for review. All opinions are my own.

I actually have the On Cloudflow in my current rotation of shoes now. I need to write a review soon! I do like them but they are a bit narrow for me and I think I would be happier in a mens shoe. We carry ON at work as well and I think they are a good company and we have a lot of people who like to wear them for looks.

I agree that the shoes might be a bit narrow for some runners- I’m not sure if they even come in wide sizes or not. I have fairly narrow feet so it doesn’t bother me but one of the other ambassadors got a pair of men’s for the reason you suggested.

Love the shirt collection! I wish I’d have thought to do that for so many of the destinations I’ve run in. I can always start now 🙂

It was pretty neat, especially because Fleet Feet Seattle was so close to our hotel. There were so many hills there that I used their foam rollers when I visited to buy the shirt. I love how Fleet Feet stores have them there for you to try before you buy (and I have bought many from the FF in MTP)

  3. Love the shoes and shirt collection! I am so jealous you’re going to Savannah soon! Such a wonderful, fun, and gorgeous city!

I have a pair of ON that I wear only for around town. They are the perfect with jeans and regular pants and since I can walk in them for miles and miles, wonderful for excursions and day trips when on vacation. I hope you enjoy yours as much as I like mine. Enjoy Savannah….I debated signing up for the race, but need a break since I am racing next month.

I have heard really good things about this brand. People who like their shoes LOVE their shoes. It was also interesting to get a window into how you dress. I am always interested in that kind of thing!
