Big Ass Medals Race Series + Discount Code

Today, I wanted to share some information and a discount code for the Coastal Race Productions BAM (Big Ass Medals) race series.

Coastal Race Productions is a local race organization in Ocean Isle Beach, NC. Each race in the series features beautiful views of North Carolina beaches, tri-blend shirts, a top-notch after party with pizza and free beer, and of course, gorgeous medals.

If you live near Coastal North Carolina, these races make a great weekend trip with your significant other or girls/guys weekend. If you don’t live near Coastal NC, it’s a great place to visit, especially if you live in a colder climate and want to go to the beach.

The half marathon medals are huge- Big Ass. Or if you want to be G-rated, big as my head. Literally. I recently caught up with the crew at a race expo, where I saw the medals in person and tried one on for size.

All four races include both half marathon and 5K options, and Run Oak Island includes a full marathon. ALL finishers earn a medal, even 5K finishers. The 5K medals are smaller versions of the half marathon medals, but they are still larger than most race medals and very beautiful.

As a runner who is recovering from injury and sticking to 5Ks for awhile, I am grateful that I can earn a finisher’s medal in the 5K without compromising my recovery or pushing my body too far.

Coastal Race Productions’ courses are USATF sanctioned and walker friendly. The 5K has no time limit, and the half marathon time limit is 3.5 hours, plenty of time for walkers or run/walkers. North Carolina can be hot and hydration is important, so the half marathon courses feature eight water stops and the 5K courses have two water stops.

Here are the races and dates for the series. To sign up for SINGLE races, click on the links below.

You can also sign up for the entire four-race series.

Coastal Race Productions has also given me a code to share. This code, AmyS, saves you 15% on the series or individual races if you can’t make the whole series.

If you have any additional questions or want more information, let me know. If I don’t know the answer, I can get in touch with the race directors to find out.

I hope to see you there!

As a Coastal Race Productions Ambassador, I received a complimentary entry into the Big Ass Medals (BAM) race series. However, I did not receive any monetary compensation for this post.

  1. That medal is ridiculous! Careful, it might try to tip your christmas tree next year.

    • Amy Lauren says:

Yeah, my longest run post-injury is 10 miles, so I’ll be earning the smaller medal on Feb. 17.

I think the big medals will make my tree fall down like that in the Charlie Brown Christmas special, but I also put some of the awards under the tree, so I may have to do that with the big medals (assuming I am uninjured enough to run a half marathon by the time the other races roll around).

I was just about to say that this medal is ridiculous! That sounds like such a fun time. If I lived closer I would definitely add it to my calendar.

  3. Oh wow, that medal is indeed huge! That is a great price for the series. If only I lived closer!

Saw the medals at the Richmond marathon exibits and new I had to have them. Just finished running the 1/2 marathon and earned the first medal. Was a blast. Loved the 5k medal wish I could have earned that one too. Drove 6 1/2 hours to participate in this race. Worth every hour in the car. After race food was the best ever. Can’t wait to run another one.

    • Amy Lauren says:

Thanks for your feedback, Cathy. I will pass it along to Dave and Johanna, the organizers. The medals are so beautiful and everyone loved them on Saturday- it was a little chilly for the after party but overall, I feel like the race went extremely well. Hope to meet you at another BAM race this year!

Hi. Wondering if you ran Oak Island and know what shirt company they used? I’m coming from across the country and try to pack the least gear so ordering the right size is key for me! Thank you in advance.

    • Amy Lauren says:

I did run Oak Island! Here is the recap:

As far as the shirts go, the shirts are men’s but they are soft cotton. I would say they run small *for a men’s shirt*. I’m not sure of your gender, but I would say if you’re a lady, get the size you normally wear in a lady’s shirt. If you’re a male and “between sizes” you may consider sizing up. The shirt did not shrink, though (I would have been A-OK if it had!)

      • MTH says:

I usually get something 20 inches across. Men’s medium or ladies large. I,m a gal that sits right between medium and large on ladies cut…

      • Amy Lauren says:

I would probably go with the medium if that’s what you get in a men’s cut. They had plenty of shirts last time so if it doesn’t work they may let you switch. Be sure to use the code to register to save some money, and share it with any friends you may have running too. The medals are awesome!
