Zippy Bites Review and Giveaway

It’s no secret that I’m an afternoon runner. Setting alarms for 5 or 6 AM to wake up and run just isn’t for me, unless it’s the weekend and and I’m doing a long run with friends. I don’t have to run in the mornings before work, and since Clay doesn’t leave for work until 8:30 AM, I don’t wake him up getting up for pre-dawn runs. We get to spend time together before work and I like that.

I work as a technical writer, and sometimes it’s hard to run after a draining day of documentation (and meetings). Like most people, my energy drops around 3 PM and I hate to reach for a cup of coffee that late. Plus, I start craving sweets- and when I worked in the corporate office, this was the time of day when I’d hit the vending machine, Starbucks, or the breakroom table in hopes someone left a delicious homemade dessert there.

After lunch, I watch what I eat since I run or work out in the afternoons, and I don’t want to eat something that will cause stomach issues on a run.

Recently, Zippy Bites contacted me to sample their product. Zippy Bites are organic, energy infused chocolate truffles. They’re made with organic chocolate and an all-natural energy blend of guarana, amino acids, caffeine, and B-vitamins. Each chocolate contains 176 mg of caffeine and are 50 calories each.

The caffeine content is less than the Starbucks I used to reach for, and the calorie content is less than other chocolate truffles or miniature candy bars.

Zippy Bites sent me two flavors to try- raspberry and mint. I enjoyed both flavors, but the raspberry flavor was my favorite. The mint taste is a little powerful. The bites satisfied my afternoon sweet cravings and also gave me some extra energy for a Wednesday evening track workout.

Zippy Bites are available in a handful of stores, mostly in the Northeast, but you can also order online. You can follow them on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

I’d try raspberry! And I would probably eat them on the ARC trainer. 🙂

  2. Hollie says:

The Raspberry sound intriguing to me too!

  3. Oh, yum! Caffeine and chocolate is a winning combination. Even though I run in the mornings, I’d still eat one of those before I head out the door. I’d try either flavour. It doesn’t matter to me!

  4. Vy says:

I’d try the mint and it would definitely be in the after lunch when I’m tired and want a sweet snack!

  5. Amber Reeves says:

Hey there! I feel you on that 3pm crash. I am the same way and I also run in the evenings so these would be perfect for a pick-me-up before hitting the pavement. I’d like to try the mint flavor…I’m crazy about Andes mints!

  6. I’d try the mint. I try to limit myself to just one cup of coffee a day, but on hard run days I usually need a post run pick me up.

  7. Casey says:

I would try the Raspberry! I do my runs in the afternoon, too and typically try to avoid copious amounts of caffeine so it doesn’t interfere with my sleep schedule. A little chocolatey pick me up before an afternoon tempo run sounds perfect!

  8. I am a morning exerciser all the way! But, I would definitely share these with my fiancé. Mint sounds great 🙂

  9. I’d try mint. I am always ready to crash by 2pm so it would be a great pick me up before track🙂

  10. Emily says:

I would like to try the mint one! This would be perfect for my post 5am workout snack! Add a little energy to get through the day!!!

  11. Lourenza says:

I will like to try the mint. Probably I would eat them in the afternoon when I need a pick me up to survive the rest of the day at work

  12. Definitely mint! I don’t love fruity chocolate. You know I do love caffeine though!! Thanks for sharing!

  13. Michelle says:

Oh the Raspberry sounds good! I don’t drink coffee, I get my caffeine from the dreaded diet coke. I can’t drink it before a run though because the carbonation upsets my tummy. I’d probably try having one of these in the morning before my run. Maybe it will give me the boost that I can’t get from my soda in the mornings!

  14. Angela says:

I’d try the raspberry. How fun you get offered samples like that!

  15. So what time do you run? I always envisioned you running around 8am. I don’t know why. 🙂 We are total opposites… I set my alarm early to run during the week but NEVER on the weekends. I just want to sleep in. I would do the mint!

  16. Genius! Chocolate and caffeine… I’d like the raspberry flavor I think. I’m into fruit! Your schedule sounds lovely. I MUST run first thing in the morning or it won’t get done. I’m mentally and physically wiped after clients and wife duties lol…So 4:30-5 am wake up call it is for me!!

  17. Oh, I want these! Raspberry sounds good, and it’s anti-inflammatory right? Along with the chocolate? Yes please.

  18. Vikki says:

Mint sounds good! I’m an early-morning, empty-stomach runner, so these would probably work great for me around 3pm when the afternoon slump hits!

  19. Energy infused chocolate sounds amazing! I’d be all about the mint, right before work for some extra energy 🙂

  20. Amy says:

I would love to try the mint!!

  21. David says:

I would keep these in my desk at work, so the mint would probably be the best option.

  22. Michelle B says:

Both flavors sound delicious! I think I’d like to try the raspberry. I run in the afternoon too and hate not being able to eat really anything in the afternoon because of it.
