Tequila, Tacos, and Trivia at Local’s

On Tuesday, Clay and I joined his coworkers for Tequila,  Tacos, and Trivia at Local’s Bar in Mt. Pleasant. Local’s is a unique concept, as it’s a sports bar but they also serve other foods like hibachi, sushi, and tacos. Usually if a sports bar tries to serve un-sporty foods, this goes horribly wrong- but Local’s gets it right.

I had two tacos- the grilled fish and the grilled shrimp, which are buy one get one half off on Tuesdays, and Clay had sushi. On other days of the week, they offer buy one get one half off sushi and different specials, including happy hour specials from 4-7. We got there early enough to double-dip and get the happy hour specials AND the Tuesday specials.

Tuesday is trivia day, and our team won trivia, scoring a $50 gift card to Local’s!

Charleston Beer Runners

Thursday night is Clay’s game night and usually my rest day from running, so I’ve been hanging out with the Charleston Beer Runners. They run from Hampton Park to various restaurants and pubs downtown. A lot of people also park at the restaurant and run to the park for some extra mileage and to have cars at the finish.

Last week, we ran to Mac’s Place on East Bay Street. It’s a Chicago Bears bar with drink specials and really good pub food. The company was great as well. I’ve only run with the group one time but everyone is so welcoming even if you just want to hang out. It’s a lot of fun. Tonight’s meetup is the Beer Runners documentary movie, so I’m looking forward to a trip to the movies with everyone.

Halloween is on the way

I got super excited when I spotted Monster Cereals in Walmart. I try to stay away from sugary cereals, but Count Chocula is one of my weaknesses.

It’s in a family sized box, which is perfect for those of us training for races and eating as much as a normal family.

South Carolina vs. East Carolina Football Game

We love going to University of South Carolina games and haven’t been in a few years, so when our friend Jeffrey offered us tickets to Saturday’s sold out home game against ECU, we happily took him up on the offer. Charleston is only about an hour and a half from Columbia, so the drive isn’t too bad either.

Football might be a Fall sport, but it certainly didn’t feel like Fall on Saturday. With temperatures in the 90s, we kept leaving our seats to go to the concessions area to cool off. Plus, it started at 4 PM and the sun was bright in the sky, so my nose now looks like Rudolph’s (oops). Despite the heat, we had a really awesome time and South Carolina pulled out the win. It was an ugly win, and we’re probably the worst 2-1 team in the NCAA right now, but a win is a win.

I hope you guys are having a wonderful week so far- and I hope it’s cooler where you are!

  1. I don’t think I have ever had Count Chocula before. I usually go for Cinnamon Toast Crunch if I’m getting a sugary cereal. Which is not too often because I can eat bowl after bowl of that stuff!

  2. When I was a kid I loved Count Chocula but my parents didn’t get it a lot because they bought generic brands and I don’t think there is a generic one of that! My absolute favorite sugary cereal is called Rice Crispy Treats cereal. I don’t know if they even make it anymore but I used to get it at wal mart when I was in college. It literally tastes like little cut up rice crispy treats!

They don’t make it anymore but I remember it! I loved Oreo O’s and they don’t make that anymore either. It was my favorite in college and my grandma used to buy it for me and send me back to college with it, haha. They stopped making it right about 2007 when I graduated, too.

Those tacos look so good! I agree it can go very very wrong with restaurants try and serve something out of their niche…but there definitely are some places that know how to make it work.

The tacos were great and very filling. They were stuffed with shrimp and fish. I’ve gone out before and gotten shrimp tacos with 3 measily little shrimp in them before, but not at Local’s. In fact, it had so many shrimp inside I had to eat some of them with a fork before I could eat the taco!

  4. We actually have Count Chocula up in Canada!!! I am definitely going to try it. I like these week in review posts of yours. Keep doing them! It’s neat to see what other people do day to day.

  5. I LOVE the sushi at local. So yummy.
I am excited about Halloween stuff too, because I hope it means it will cool down here!

  6. Those tacos looked great and I’m glad y’all had fun at the football game! We’re supposed to be getting some cooler temperatures this week – hopefully they stick around and we start getting some fall weather soon.

    • Amy Lauren says:

We had a great time at the game, but it was ridiculously hot! We wished the temperatures were like our last game- the Seattle Seahawks game- because it was soooo much cooler there (even though they had a “heat wave” that week).

  7. Count chocula! I haven’t had that in forever!
Sounds like a fun week! Trivia, tacos and football!

  8. Well you had a fun week! It’s fun to get a peek into running bloggers’ lives outside of running 🙂

You guys look so cute at that football game in your maroon shirts! Looks like a fun month filled with delicious foods, good friends, plenty of running, and fun. As for cereal, I tend to avoid it as well but this year they launch pumpkin spice cheerios, so I have been eating those. 🙂

The food at the restaurant you played trivia at looks divine! I also love seeing all the fall stuff come out 🙂

  11. Ahh, I miss having sugary cereals! I may have to go out and buy some of my old favorites next time I see them (Lucky Charms, Cap’n Crunch, French Toast Crunch, etc. haha). You’ve inspired me!

Local’s sounds like an awesome place! Glad you were able to double dip on deals 🙂
