My friend and Charleston local, Rocky, has been running as Forrest Gump for 3 years, 2 months, 14 days, and 16 hours. He’s appeared and run as Forrest in several local races, including Charleston’s Run Forrest Run 5K, Turkey Day Run, and the Cooper River Bridge Run.
Rocky’s also run as Forrest in some larger, nationwide races like the Chicago Marathon, Charlotte NC Race Fest, Rock and Roll Philadelphia, and the Savannah Rock and Roll Marathon.
Sunday was Rocky’s last run as Forrest Gump. He is shaving and won’t be making any more appearances or running races as Forrest- and I’m not sure any of us will recognize him as Rocky and not Forrest.
In his honor, the OnShore Racing Sunday Run held a farewell party and invited Brian Fancher Photography to take some pictures resembling the running scenes from Forrest Gump. Brian is the best photographer in the Charleston area and always does an amazing job, especially with athletic photography at road races and triathlons.
Everyone dressed as their favorite Forrest Gump character, so I couldn’t pass up the chance to be a reporter- I had a homemade press pass badge (it didn’t survive a soggy 8 mile shuffle) and a toy microphone.
Although this was a farewell to Forrest, Rocky is still running- as Rocky.
