Yelp’s Outback Adventure + Pink Fountain in Waterfront Park

First, I have to share this really cool picture of the fountain in Waterfront Park. It was pink last week in honor of breast cancer awareness month. I’m not a huge fan of the Komen charities, but it’s not every day you see a pink fountain in Downtown Charleston.

On Wednesday night, Clay and I traveled to Outback Steakhouse in North Charleston for Yelp’s Outback Adventure.

Yelp serves to connect people with great local businesses, and I found it after we moved to Charleston last year. It’s a good website if you’re new in town or travelling and need a recommendation on where to eat, visit, shop, get gas, etc. On Yelp, you can find reviews for everything from dentists to delis for free, and you can join and write your own reviews.

I’m a 2013 Yelp Elite, which basically means I write tons of reviews on Yelp and get invited to fun parties and events like this one. It’s like a reward for reviewing businesses and contributing to the overall Yelp community. You can read my reviews here, and if you’re into reviewing or reading about local businesses, you should definitely join Yelp!

At Outback Steakhouse, we enjoyed unlimited free drinks off a new bar menu and tried appetizer specials. Outback has a new happy hour menu with specials starting at $4, and it features lots of new items such as brisket nachos as well as old favorites such as coconut shrimp and margherita flatbreads. Some of the drinks include apple martinis and rum punches.

Brandon and Blair, our wait staff at the North Charleston Outback took great care of us, and at the end of the night, treated us to delicious cake pops.

Another fun part of Yelp’s Outback Adventure was hanging out with the other Yelp Elites whose reviews I read. We met another couple, Andie and Sean, who live super close to us and talked about the fun stuff happening in West Ashley. Always great to meet other couples.

Living in a foodie city like Charleston and being a fan of small businesses, Outback Steakhouse isn’t a usual haunt for Clay and I. You’re more likely to find me at a salad bar, coffee shop, or soup and sandwich restaurant (neither of us frequent happy hours or bars very often).

I’m thankful Yelp and Outback sponsored the event so we could try and review the new options. We liked everything we tried, and if you’re into happy hour and are close to Outback Steakhouse, you might want to check it out. The price is definitely right.

Q1.) Where are the cool parks in your city? Waterfront Park (where the fountains are) and Hampton Park are in Downtown Charleston and are pretty neat. We have a new park coming to Northbridge in West Ashley next year, too.

Q2.) Are you a fan of happy hour? We don’t do happy hour much, but occasionally Clay’s coworkers go out after work or another employee “hosts” happy hour at home, and we usually go to hang out with everyone and chill.

You know what, I’m not a big fan of the Komen charities either, for multiple reasons. Ugh. I do like that pink fountain though–wow. There is a fountain at a furniture store by my house, and people often put bubbles in it as a prank hahah. It’s so funny to see HUGE mounds of suds coming out of the fountain!

How cool that you’re elite on Yelp! WOW! I havn’t used it to find a place to eat (or anything else), but I have used it to help my dad with real estate work. He’s trying to rent out some buildings he owns in a nearby town, so I find restaurants nearby on Yelp, and we contact them and see if they want to open another location. Fun stuff!

I think it’s so cool that you were able to eat with other Yelp elites, too! That must have been really fun. Plus, everything looks SO good!

It was great :). Yeah, I’ve written over 100 reviews on Yelp, I guess that’s what it takes to be an elite- I just know I got an email last Spring that I was chosen as one.

Apparently it’s a yearly thing and you can be one over and over. It’s pretty neat that you use it for work with your mom and dad’s real estate company too.

  2. I love Yelp! Maybe I should start reviewing on the site instead of just making use of it. 🙂

I use yelp a lot. I didn’t know there was a reward system like that for people who do the reviewing. I need to look into that. I have more than enough opinions. 🙂

The pink fountain is pretty cool. I know about yelp but never really look at it or tried it. Maybe I should start using I because PJ and I are always looking for someplace new to eat at. We get tired of the same places all the time. Looks like you had some yummy foods!!

    • Amy Lauren says:

You should join (and actually join and review, not just read everyone else’s- because you obviously go places that are cool too 😉 ). We could find cool places to go here without yelp, but I just like it… it’s fun to write reviews and tips about places too.

  5. Wow how cool is that?! Pink fountain! Love it! Looks like Pink Lemonade, makes me want to drink it. First time seeing one like that. 🙂 That’s a nice tribute for Breast Cancer Awareness.

Hubby and I are not a fan of happy hour too. We don’t drink that much. We go for salad and soup restaurants too. That’s neat that you get to be in a Yelp’s event. I didn’t know there’s such thing. Thanks for sharing! 🙂

    • Amy Lauren says:

Yeah, I don’t drink much so happy hour usually isn’t something for me, but the appetizers were delicious and I did sample the drinks, the few sips I had were good and the prices are great for those who want to partake. Drinks can be seriously pricey sometimes.

I agree with you on the Komen stuff but that fountain is pretty amazing! I’d probably stop to take a photo too. I want to get into using Yelp more! Sounds like you had a great time!

The pink fountain was pretty awesome! Always neat to change things up, especially when these parks are in your city and you’re just used to seeing them look the same way most days. Good stuff!

  7. Look, pink! 😀 It makes me wonder though… if you touch the water, do you get pink dye all over your hands, or is it just lighting?

Mmm… I haven’t been to Outback Steakhouse in years. Since I believe my sophomore year of college. I think the last time I was there though, I got a burger. I know, I’m boring. Out of all the exciting things they serve there, I get something you can get at a fast food joint.

That’s neat that you and Clay met another couple… and interesting how you sat across from each other instead of next to each other. Hehe. 🙂

  8. What a great program to be apart of! meeting new people and new foods, score! haha. I love happy hour for the prices, but don’t go much because Andrew and I usually just stay in for dinner 🙂
