Five Question Friday: Of big boats, bookstores, and boyfriends.

Five Question FridayFive Question FridayAfter a short week, Friday always comes even faster. But first came Thursday night, and like every other Thursday night, it was a happy one when I saw my paycheck had been deposited into my account :). Funny how my favorite part of work occurs at night when I’m not even there, hehe. Gotta love payday!

Speaking of Thursday, it means my birthday is only 30 days away, so only 30 more shopping days! A lot of you got paid this week (hint, hint) and for those of you who didn’t, well… you still have enough notice!

I also spent my lunch Thursday at Mellow Mushroom with my awesome friend Ashley. Yeah, less than a week after her birthday dinner, we were already doing lunch again, and what an awesome lunch it was. I found an amazing deal on facebook, where if you “Liked” the Mellow Mushroom page, you got a coupon for a free small cheese pizza with purchase of a soft drink. Since we were already going, I told Ash and we both printed the coupon and got it.

Let me tell you… a “small” pizza at Mellow Mushroom is HUGE.

Veggie pizza!

Spinach, tomatoes, and black olives on cheese pizza.

But our bill wasn’t :). Gotta love it when your tip comprises almost half the total check! Love some Mellow Mushroom and super glad they came to Florence.

1. What ringtone do you have on your cell phone?

It stays on vibrate. It also vibrates when someone texts me, which is my preferred method of communication unless you’re my mom or you have a whole lot to say.

And NEVER leave a voicemail- I have four new voicemails on my phone now that I haven’t checked. I even learned something new about our phone system at work, that if you don’t check your voicemail, after about 2-3 weeks, the red light on your phone just goes off :).

2. What is your favorite memory from this summer?

That would definitely be my honeymoon, which was a cruise on the Royal Caribbean Freedom of the Seas. You can read all about it here.

I like big boats and I cannot lie...

3. Paper books or ebooks?

Gotta go with a paper book. I don’t have an e-reader, and there’s something about holding a book in your hands and reading it. Plus, I like being able to take my books to the pool, and I wouldn’t want to take an e-reader there and have some kid run by and splash me and an expensive electronic. I have bad enough luck with electronics anyway- remember the Ipod death caused by sweat?

Unfortunately, paper books are on the way out, and our local Books A Million store is closing :(. Really sad to hear that, because I have so many great memories of going to Books A Million as a 10-year-old with my dad. He’d buy a book and he’d buy me a book, and I’d read mine on the way home. We never did one of those “Father Daughter Dances”, and neither of us were into sports, but we both liked to read and that was one of the few ways we ever bonded.

Fast forward 10 years to when I was a student at Francis Marion University- before Florence ever got a Starbucks or a Dunkin Donuts, we had the Joe Muggs coffee shop at Books A Million, and that’s where we went for late night coffee. Open till 11 PM, it was the place to hang out, sip coffee, and study for my non-party-crazy friends and I.

BAM Closing

'Tis a sad day indeed...

I love technology, but downloading a book doesn’t give you the kind of memories that spending time in a bookstore does.

4. If you could have one home upgrade what would it be and why?

I’d love to own a home. Since I live in an apartment, I don’t know how well this question applies to me. However, if I had to have an apartment upgrade, I’d go with someone coming in and deep-cleaning the apartment. That would be really amazing, actually!

Great for now, but not forever.

5. When was your first serious boyfriend/girlfriend?

The first one I was ever really serious with was the one I married, and I’m proud to say that :).

Its interesting talking about books, because I am not a big reader. I mean, I like to read. I think that reading is important, but it’s not my top hobby. But I do agree, there is something about holding that book. Oh, and smelling that book smell… especially old books. ๐Ÿ™‚

Did you hear Borders is closing, too? ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

I’ve eaten at Mellow Mushroom once. There’s one in Columbus, and we ate there with my grandparents. You’re right… it is a BIG pizza! I was surprised when I got my “small” pizza. I would like to eat at MM someday again. ๐Ÿ™‚

I remember when you went on your honeymoon. I can’t wait till I go on mine someday. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I dealt liked this 5 Question Friday. The questions were simple, yet they really got you to think. Hehe. Have a good Saturday!

I liked these questions too, but I think the “What was your favorite part of summer” was a question a few weeks ago because I remember posting a lot of pics in that entry. Anyway, I guess this works because a few favorite parts may have happened since that post for some people :).

Mellow Mushroom is amazing. I love the hoagie sandwiches there too. Actually I have not had anything there I didn’t like, and I can be a picky eater. It is about 1/4 mile from my job.

i haaaaate checking voicemails too! and i prefer texting because i’m awkward on the phone ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Amy Lauren says:

I can talk on the phone- I really don’t mind if someone calls. But, if you can’t get me, the best option is text because I can check that easier in places where I can’t necessarily be on the phone :).

I now have 5 voicemails because mommy left one earlier today to ask how my race went, haha.

  3. Your cruise looked like so much fun. I’m so glad for you that the first person you were serious with was who you married. That is seriously amazing!
