November 17, 2010: Today, I am thankful for good news.
Despite my not-so-fun incident while giving blood at the doctor the other day, I was quite happy when I got the results back a few days later.
After wearing sweaters and hoodies in May, looking pale and feeling dizzy constantly, going from running 6 miles to running *nothing*, and falling asleep in the back of my friend’s SUV on the 3 minute drive from Chic-Fil-A, I was diagnosed with severe iron-deficiency anemia in May 2010.
My hemoglobin level was a 7.3, which I later found out is .3 away from a blood transfusion. The lab bolds everything abnormal on test results, and surely someone had to change the ink cartridge a few times when they printed mine. The doctor was surprised I was able to get out of bed and go to work, so running was out of the question for one whole, sucky, month.
Six months of high-potency iron supplements, five doctors visits, and four
human pincushion episodes blood tests later, I’m well… better.
I’m sure this blog totally violates all facets of HIPPA, but here’s two numbers:
- Hemoglobin: 12.0 g/dL (Normal is between 11.5 and 15)
- Iron: 53 ug/dL (Normal is between 35 and 155)
I feel *so* much better, and my doctor is really pleased. I might still be at the low end of normal, and I’ll have regular blood tests at least every six months, but for now, I’ll take it :).
November 18, 2010: Today, I am thankful for new shoes.
So, I’m not your typical girly-girl, but I do love an awesome pair of shoes. Granted it’s usually an awesome pair of *running* shoes, but I bought these at the mall. They’re super comfortable and super stylish!
So, here’s to good news and new shoes- what could be better?
