November 14, 2010: Today, I’m thankful for receiving mail.
I love getting mail.
Obviously, I’m pretty tech-savvy. I work for a software company, where I spend countless hours in front of a computer. Not to mention, I was facebooking, tweeting, and blogging before it was cool :).
It’s nice to check one of my social networking Web sites (or ‘websites’ if your style guide says so) and find a tweet or comment from a friend, or even an e-mail. Or should I say ’email’ from a friend who’s a new school tech writer ;).
But nothing replaces getting mail. The facebook birthday wishes I got last month were nice, and I’m thankful for them all. I read them all, but I didn’t respond to everyone because I
have a life worked that day and I didn’t want the evil IT monster to come after me for too much facebook usage during work hours.
The birthday cards I got- and of course, I received few birthday cards, as we’re all techies here- are still on my bookshelf at work. My birthday was over a month ago. In the days of United States Postal Service cutbacks and closures, there’s still some merit in sending a card or letter to a friend.
November 15, 2010: Today, I am thankful for blog giveaways.
I always enter contests, even when I know I have very little chance at winning them. But sometimes, I get lucky and wind up winning something cool.
One of the coupon blogs I read, Southern Savers, recently hosted a bunch of holiday giveaways, and of course, I entered most of them. Obviously the ones for toys, I don’t have too much use for but a lot of the giveaways were for really great prizes.
So, imagine my surprise when I checked my e-mail and found that I won a$50 gift card to DaySpring’s Online Store. Over 1,600 people entered the contest to win 3 gift cards.
DaySpring has some really great wall decor, so I’ve been looking at their website all evening deciding what will look best in mine and Clay’s apartment when I move in next month. I’m so excited because the giveaway win came at such a great time- I’ll get to use the gift card to decorate our apartment for our first Christmas living together!
November 16, 2010: Today, I’m thankful that I can be a big kid.
So, after sweatin’ it out for my usual 3 miles on the treadmill tonight, I cut through the Sonic parking lot to avoid some traffic leaving the gym. You’ll never guess who I saw? Tater Tot!
Aside from being slightly creeped out that Tater Tot is throwing up gang symbols at my camera, it was pretty fun. Most 25-year-olds aren’t going to stop to get a picture taken with a restaurant mascot, but I sure will!
