The Friday 5K Challenge: Week 2

Apparently, I’m determined to do the Friday 5K challenge every day EXCEPT on a Friday- because this week, I did the 5K on a Monday.

After all, I just run when I feel like it, for however far I feel like running.  If I planned certain workouts for certain days all the time… well, where’s the fun in that?  Spontanaity is nice sometimes.

So, after a crazy day at work, I hit the ‘mill for the weekly 5k Monday afternoon.  I flipped the TV back and forth between some show on CMT called “World’s Strictest Parents” and Dr. Oz.  Some people aren’t into TV during runs or workouts, but it really helps me by keeping my mind slightly occupied.

On a side note, why can’t we have real M.D.s like Dr. Oz?  Isn’t that every lady’s dream doctor?  He’s calm, he listens to the audience members, and he’s not bad to look at.  If you need to get healthy, he brings in an NFL star to do crunches with you on stage.  He even advocates eating dark chocolate :).  Maybe if medical schools churned out more Dr. Oz’s, I wouldn’t hate going to the doctor so much.

My run was pretty good.  I finished in 30:25, with 3 short walk breaks.  I try to average a 9 minute mile pace, and while I take walk breaks, I always start running again.  I was aiming for another sub-30 minute 5K, and I can’t do that every day.  But I CAN be thankful for what I can do~ and I can run 5K (90% of the time, anyway) in a decent time and live to tell about it.  That’s definitely something to be proud of.

I also tried out my new Bondi Band.  It has a skull-n-bones chick on it, so that I can feel tough when I run even when I take walk breaks.  My coworker and friend Jamie bought some Bondi Bands a month or so ago, and she’s made me a believer.

When I left the gym, I went by the grocery store and bought a few ingredients to make Homemade Veggie Burgers.  Once again- I’m trying to make progress on #8- Learn to Cook (Something).  I found the recipe on the same website where we found the Coconut Shrimp Curry recipe (which was awesome!), so I figured I’d try the veggie burgers.

The burgers were pretty good, since it was my first time making them.  Next time, I think I’ll add some additional veggies in there to give it more taste.  I’m thinking maybe drained mexicorn and those little shredded carrots that normally go in salads?

Anyway- I’d definitely make them again!  I made two burgers and ate one Monday night and took the other one to work for lunch on Tuesday, along with some mixed vegetables.  I’m pretty sure I was the only person at ACS eating a veggie burger for lunch- much less a homemade one, but it was even better leftover!

So all in all, it was an awesome 5K Monday :).  What’s not awesome about running a pretty good time, having a cool new headband, and having a very tasty homemade post-run veggie burger?  Here’s to hoping for an awesome 5K next week!

    Glad you liked the burgers 🙂 Corn might make them fall apart (too big) – maybe try some finely chopped peppers or something?
